ABOUT EXPO MILANO 2015

Expo Milano 2015, “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life” is the largest worldwide event ever organized to unite countries, institutions, companies and citizens around the world to explore ideas and solutions to the challenges of assuring safe and nutritious food for all through innovative, sustainable practices and new ways of collaboration. 

Expo Milano 2015 will take place from May 1st to October 31st 2015 in Italy and will involve over 20 million visitors and 140 countries in exhibitions and thousands of events ranging from world debates and policy meetings to events celebrating the tradition and culture of food.

It is much more than a 6 month event.  It is a multiyear journey which aims at becoming a "Global Movement" to aggregate ideas and contributions in order to leave a legacy of initiatives and solutions which will live and grow beyond 2015. It is a global forum to discover new ways of thinking about food, sustainability and cooperation as well as a place to experience innovative technologies and ideas for our planet.

Expo 2015 collaborates with best in class, innovation driven companies around the world who can propose revolutionary and inspiring ideas. As of today, leading companies in their sectors such as Cisco, Enel, Telecom Italia have already joined Expo 2015 to help us build a memorable event.

EXPO MILANO 2015 EXHIBITION SPACE 
AT THE INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITION OF YEOSU 2012

The Italian Pavilion at Yeosu 2012 is about the Italian heritage, culture and identity related to the sea: Italy is first of all a country of seafarers, explorers and fishermen, deeply linked to the sea, a source of energy and inspiration at the same time for its people and culture. The exhibition path reaches its climax by showing the most influential people and advancements that nowadays are present in our country and regions, within the fields of scientific innovation and Blue Economy linked to the theme of the sea and the oceans.

Within this framework and as a best preview of the “Italy of the Future”, the installation “The event beyond the curtain” has been conceived  to show up and promote the Universal Exposition of Milan that will be held in 2015. The visitor will be involved through a fascinating atmosphere: a sophisticated use of lights and colors will give life to a curtain covering the walls of the pavilion, creating the illusion of being in front of the real opening ceremony of the next Universal Exhibition. 

World Food Table: The setting will focus on the theme of Expo Milano 2015: Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life; in this regard, the “world food table” has been chosen as the main iconic element: it is an installation that will explain the different ways of “eating together” by showing “the table and the instruments” typical of different cultures around the world. The visitor will be able to interact with a sensor and create scenarios of the habits of different Peoples, finding out similarities and differences among the ways of eating around the world. The setting will also provide the opportunity for the visitors to get more information about the way of perceiving food and the ways to approach to it among the different cultures of the World.

Video Art Show: The exhibition will also provide a video art show that will involve the visitor within a journey made of pictures and sounds, starting from the theme of Yeosu 2012 and reaching the themes of Expo Milano 2015 in a highly symbolic and figurative way. This installation will also interact with the Expo Digital Gallery and could favor the visit of the Italian Pavilion. 

Aqua Feeds You: Towards the end of the exhibition path the installation Aqua feeds you will be the meeting place with the visitor, to whom will be offered some water (feeding, comfort, refreshment,  sight regeneration). In this way water, both the main theme of Yeosu 2015 and  vital element also at the center of the Expo Milano 2015, will be the link between Yeosu and the next Universal Exhibition.

The visitor will drink by using a single tool named “the traveler tool”, a folding glass to be used as a necklace, with the Expo 2015 logo and in different colors. The “traveler tool” will also have a QR code inside, allowing the visitor to activate a direct link to the internet website and be included within the mailing list of Expo Milano 2015. In this way the visitor at Yeosu 2015 will act as a testimonial of Expo Milano 2015 and of Italy meeting the other visitors and, once back at home,  will be able to put in practice what he/she learned thanks to the visit at Expo Yeosu 2012.

EXPO MILANO 2015: A JOURNEY THROUGH ITALY

Expo Milano 2015 will also offer a chance to enjoy a unique and extraordinary visit of Italy: towns of artistic interest, historical monuments, events, natural parks, lakes and mountains and its  extraordinary landscape and food.

Expo Milano 2015 raggiunge quota 84 adesioni ufficiali. A pochi giorni dalla conferma di Eritrea e di Costa Rica, il Kenya ha comunicato la propria partecipazione all’Esposizione Universale di Milano.

Quella di Nairobi è una conferma importante, soprattutto per l’attenzione che il Paese ha riservato nei confronti dei Cluster di Expo Milano 2015. Di recente, infatti, il Kenya ha preso parte al primo incontro del tavolo di lavoro del Cluster del Caffè, che valorizzerà uno dei settori più produttivi e strategici dell’economia keniana.

I Cluster sono uno dei segni distintivi dell’Expo di Milano. Grazie a questa innovativa forma di partecipazione più Paesi, accomunati dalla produzione di uno stesso alimento o interessati a sviluppare una stessa tematica, potranno condividere spazi, idee e soluzioni e dare il proprio originale contributo al tema della manifestazione “Nutrire il Pianeta, Energia per la Vita”.

The Competition winners, Onsitestudio Srl (Gian Carlo Floridi and Angelo Lunati) with Andrea Liverani, Enrico Molteni, Monica Lavagna, Lavinia Chiara Tagliabue, and Michela Buzzetti were presented with the award by Giuseppe Sala, Managing Director of Expo2015 SpA. The winners take home a cash prize of 90,000 euros. During the press conference and awards ceremony, the winners also had the opportunity to present their project, where water, wood, light, and shadow are the structural components of a functional and inviting public space.

The Competition was a great national and international success, drawing in 86 groups of architects and engineers who envisioned new structures and designs that place the focus on architectural and spatial quality.

The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th ranked projects will each receive a prize of 14,000 euros: Ole Arquitectos SLP (Pedro Ledo Márquez, Jesús Orúe Vázquez, Jesús Lázaro Izquierdo, Javier Bononato Vázquez, Javier Perdigones Gómez, Giulia Giovannoni, Sebastian Moya Benicio, and Francesca Cristiano from Spain, 2nd prize), Pedro Ferreira da Silva Teixeira de Melo with Chiara Sebastiana Maria Ternullo and Nuno Fernando Afonso Marcos (from Portugal, 3rd prize), Salvatore Dierna with Alessandra Battisti, Silvia Cimini, Maria Beatrice Andreucci, Letizia Martinelli, Rosanna Morleo and Fabrizio Tucci (from Italy, 4th place), and Fabio Prada with Paola Trivini, Michele Saucelli and Salvatore Musarò (from Italy, 5th place).

Expo Milano 2015 achieves 71 official participants (15 feb 2012). During 2012, Expo plans to gather 110 countries, which will become 150 as overarching target. The flags of the participating countries are waving in Via Dante, in Milan city centre.

In response to several company requests to postpone the deadline for submission of proposals for the selection of a SMART ENERGY PARTNER, due to the technical complexity, Expo 2015 S.p.A. will extend the deadline. Project proposals must be received by 12:00 PM on February 15th, 2012 and Clarifications Requests must be sent by January 23rd, 2012. Expo 2015 S.p.A. will publish answers to Clarifications Requests by 12:00 PM on January 27th, 2012.

By giving the news, the General Commissioner of Expo Milano 2015, Roberto Formigoni, and the Special Commissioner of the Italian Government for Expo Milano 2015, Giuliano Pisapia, underlined the importance that another big Country confirmed its adhesion. In their opinion, the increasing number of new Official Participants bears witness to the strong appeal of Expo Milano 2015 all over the world.

The theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life” is so distinctive that it played a strategic role in the choice made by France, one of the leading Countries in Europe and in the world in agricultural production, as the President Nicolas Sarkozy wrote in the confirmation letter: “France, that is strongly linked to Italy in every field, recognizes a special interest in the event and in the theme”.

The General Commissioner Formigoni and the Special Commissioner Pisapia renewed their commitment to ensure the best visibility and the widest international attention to Expo Milano 2015.

“The target of 50 Official Participants, on schedule by the end of 2011, is widely overcome. We will provide each political, cultural and economic system in the world and the scientific communities with special meetings in order to exchange and share ideas and to give the World Expo of Milan appeal, intelligence and innovation, fundamental items to draw million people’s attention to the event”, the General Commissioner Formigoni said. The Special Commissioner Pisapia declared: “France adhesion to Expo shows the value and the international appreciation of our project. The confirmation of this great Nation brings the number of Countries that have already confirmed their participation to 67. This is the highest number of Participants that a World Expo has ever reached three years before the Expo beginning. Thanks to this adhesion the important friendship between Milan, Italy and France will be reinforced”.

L’obiettivo dei 50 Partecipanti, fissato per fine anno, è stato largamente superato. Il tema “Nutrire il pianeta, energia per la vita”, le soluzioni innovative per i problemi dell’alimentazione e la qualità complessiva del progetto: sono questi i principali motivi che hanno spinto questi Paesi ad aderire con convinzione a Expo Milano 2015.

 “Il Ministero dell’Economia e delle Telecomunicazioni – scrive nella lettera, inviata  all’Ambasciata italiana a Beirut, il ministro Nicolas Nahas  - ha già avviato le procedure amministrative necessarie per assicurare la partecipazione del Libano con un padiglione speciale”. Il governo libanese ha intenzione di partecipare sfruttando una delle opportunità di collaborazione che l’esposizione di Milano offre ai Paesi aderenti e che sono state illustrate al Primo Meeting dei Partecipanti di fine ottobre.

 “La Repubblica di Slovacchia -  si legge nella nota di conferma del primo ministro slovacco Iveta Radicova - si impegna a partecipare all’esposizione e quindi a contribuire al dibattito mondiale e allo scambio di esperienze sui problemi relativi  all’alimentazione e alla sicurezza alimentare, ai legami tra nutrizione, salute, sviluppo sostenibile e tradizioni culturali delle singole nazioni, così come alla produzione agricola sostenibile”.

A causa di un territorio poco coltivabile, il Tagikistan è uno dei Paesi più interessati alle soluzioni che Expo intende trovare al problema dell’alimentazione e della produzione agricola. Per questo motivo, nella missiva di conferma, il governo ha provveduto a nominare “il ministero dello Sviluppo Economico e del Commercio della Repubblica del Tagikistan quale ente responsabile per le trattative a riguardo”.

This phenomenon must be curbed, not only for its negative impact on food security in poorer countries, but also in order to guarantee sustainable economic development on a global level.

Dopo il successo riscosso dal progetto durante il primo Meeting internazionale dei Partecipanti, l’Esposizione Universale di Milano ottiene nuovi riconoscimenti. Forte del crescente numero di adesioni, oggi a quota 63 grazie alle conferme di Qatar e Thailandia, il 23 novembre la manifestazione milanese ha ricevuto il plauso dell’Assemblea Generale del Bie, riunita in sessione plenaria a Parigi.

“C’è grande soddisfazione da parte del Bie, per come è stata definita la governance di Expo e per il mondo con cui vogliamo approfondire il tema ‘Nutrire il pianeta, energia per la vita’”, ha dichiarato il Commissario Generale dell’Expo Roberto Formigoni, di ritorno da Parigi, insieme al Commissario Straordinario Giuliano Pisapia, il Presidente di Expo 2015 SpA Diana Bracco e l’Amministratore Delegato Giuseppe Sala.

L’approvazione del Bureau International des Expositions deriva anche dalla puntualità con cui Expo sta rispettando le scadenze in agenda: “Lo scorso anno ci siamo posti tre impegni: assegnare le aree, iniziare i lavori e creare una nuova governance. Li abbiamo onorati tutti”, ha aggiunto Pisapia.

Segnali positivi arrivano anche dal mondo delle imprese. “Puntiamo ad avere la più ampia partecipazione possibile: dalle multinazionali alle aziende artigiane. Abbiamo già contattato 500 imprenditori e le Camere di Commercio di tutta Italia”, ha affermato Diana Bracco, soffermandosi sull’impegno che Expo sta dedicando al coinvolgimento del sistema produttivo lombardo e italiano.

Ottimismo e fiducia sono presenti anche nelle parole che Sala ha rilasciato alla stampa. Secondo l’AD di Expo 2015 SpA, “l’International Participants Meeting di fine ottobre è stato un momento di svolta: il Bie ci ha riconosciuto che non si è mai visto un progetto così ben definito a tre anni e mezzo dalla partenza di una Esposizione. Questa è stata un’occasione di confronto: il lavoro va avanti. Siamo già pronti con nuove gare”.

Qatar e Thailandia sono gli ultimi due Paesi ad aver annunciato ufficialmente la propria presenza all’Esposizione Universale. Con queste adesioni, il numero dei Partecipanti ufficiali a Expo Milano 2015 raggiunge quota 63.

Nella lettera inviata all’ambasciata italiana a Bangkok, il ministro degli Affari Esteri thailandese ha designato l’attuale ministro dell’Agricoltura e delle Cooperative come autorità responsabile del Paese per l’esposizione del 2015.

La presenza della Thailandia tra i Paesi aderenti è una conquista importante per Expo Milano 2015. Essendo il principale Paese esportatore di riso nel mondo, la Thailandia darà un grande contributo al tema di Expo “Nutrire il Pianeta, Energia per la Vita”.

Lo stabilisce il protocollo d’intesa “per la regolarità, la sicurezza del lavoro e la formazione nelle lavorazioni edili concernenti le opere di Expo 2015”, firmato questa mattina da Expo 2015 SpA e Assimpredil Ance, insieme ai rappresentanti sindacali di Fillea-Cgil, Feneal-Uil e  Filca-Cisl.

“Con l’accordo di oggi, Expo 2015 assicura che nei propri cantieri saranno rispettate le norme contrattuali, di sicurezza, salute e formazione dei lavoratori impegnati nella realizzazione delle opere”, ha spiegato l’Amministratore Delegato di Expo 2015 SpA Giuseppe Sala. “Siamo soddisfatti perché questo protocollo garantisce un efficace sistema di controlli per la sicurezza dei lavoratori e la trasparenza della filiera ”, ha dichiarato Claudio De Albertis, presidente dell’Associazione Imprese Edili e Complementari delle Province di Milano, Lodi e Monza e Brianza, aggiungendo: “Abbiamo sempre cercato di rendere concreti i patti siglati , facendo affidamento sulla qualità dei nostri organismi paritetici  di assistenza e controllo, insieme con le rappresentanze sindacali delle costruzioni”.

Il protocollo prevede che tutte le imprese edili e affini che lavoreranno sul Sito iscrivano i propri lavoratori, sin dal primo giorno alla Cassa Edile di Milano, Lodi, Monza e Brianza: “È fondamentale per attivare un monitoraggio costante sulla regolarità delle imprese che operano nel cantiere EXPO attraverso la messa on-line delle informazioni anagrafiche e contributive dei singoli lavoratori ”, ha spiegato Luca Botta Responsabile Relazioni Industriali di Assimpredil Ance, ipotizzando la presenza in cantiere di una struttura fissa di  CPT e ESEM , in grado di fornire una  consulenza specialistica in materia di sicurezza del lavoro e formazione per i lavoratori e le imprese.

Durante l’esecuzione delle opere edili, gli enti paritetici – Cassa Edile, CPT ed ESEM – metteranno a disposizione di Expo 2015 SpA  il proprio know-how , i dati e le informazioni necessarie  per tutelare la sicurezza e la salute dei lavoratori nonché per garantire  la loro formazione obbligatoria , nel rispetto del contratto nazionale di lavoro e in particolare  del contratto integrativo provinciale di settore. “Vogliamo fare e documentare la nascita di un’Esposizione Universale virtuosa, da qualsiasi punto di vista, che resti nella memoria”, ha commentato Sala.

Unanime il giudizio positivo dei sindacati. “Questo documento è di grande utilità, perché monitora due temi centrali e complessi connessi alle opere pubbliche: la sicurezza e la legalità”, ha dichiarato Franco De Alessandri (Fillea-Cgil). Enrico Vizza (Feneal-Uil) si è soffermato sulla formazione degli addetti ai lavori: “Questo è un ulteriore passo verso il cantiere sicuro”. Mentre Francesco Bianchi (Filca-Cisl) ha aggiunto: “Il cantiere di Expo potrà e dovrà essere una palestra di lavoro fondata sulla prevenzione, la sicurezza e la legalità: sarà un fiore all’occhiello, esempio per gli altri”.

Con la conferma del Nepal, salgono a 61 le adesioni (60 Paesi e l’Onu) all’Esposizione Universale. L’annuncio è stato dato dal Commissario Generale dell’Expo Roberto Formigoni: “Siamo a 61 adesioni e abbiamo raggiunto un traguardo importante che conferma l’attrattività di Expo Milano 2015”.

Il Nepal è il 60° Paese ad aver comunicato ufficialmente la propria presenza all’Esposizione di Milano. La partecipazione è stata confermata con una lettera inviata dalla Missione Permanente del Nepal presso le Nazioni Unite.

L’agricoltura – in particolare la coltivazione di grano, riso e orzo – e l’allevamento del bestiame sono le principali attività economiche del Paese. Nonostante sia molto povero, prendendo parte a Expo, il Nepal potrà dare un grande contributo al tema della manifestazione “Nutrire il pianeta, energia per la vita” e suggerire soluzioni ai problemi legati all’alimentazione e alla nutrizione che lo riguardano più da vicino.

Con queste parole Roberto Formigoni, Commissario Generale dell’Expo, ha annunciato l’adesione del Nepal, incontrando i giornalisti dell’Associazione Stampa Estera di Milano insieme all’Amministratore Delegato di Expo 2015 SpA Giuseppe Sala.

La riunione, introdotta del Consigliere Delegato della Stampa Estera Dominique Muret, è stata seguita con attenzione e curiosità dai corrispondenti delle principali testate internazionali di stanza a Milano. Giornalisti provenienti da tutto il mondo - Giappone, Usa, Ecuador, Germania, Bulgaria, Austria, Brasile, Olanda, Gran Bretagna, Svizzera e Francia – hanno colto l’occasione per rivolgere al Commissario Formigoni e all’AD Sala puntuali domande per approfondire le tematiche dell’Expo che destano maggiore interesse nei Paesi di origine.

Il tema “Nutrire il pianeta, energia per la vita”, i costi del Sito espositivo e delle grandi opere infrastrutturali connesse (Pedemontana, Brebemi, Tangenziale Est esterna di Milano, le nuove linee metropolitane e le linee ferroviarie) sono stati al centro della presentazione del Commissario generale. “L’Expo è un momento straordinario di confronto e scambio tra i popoli e un’occasione eccezionale per sviluppare e consolidare la trama delle relazioni diplomatiche e istituzionali”, ha affermato Formigoni, illustrando l’eredità materiale (un quartiere ultra moderno e all’avanguardia) e immateriale (linee guida sull’alimentazione e la nutrizione) che Expo Milano 2015 lascerà alla città e al mondo.

“Si conferma e si rafforza l’appeal della nostra Expo”, ha commentato il Commissario generale di Expo e Presidente della Regione Lombardia Roberto Formigoni, annunciando l’ultima conferma di partecipazione. “Con l’ingresso della Moldova siamo arrivati a 60, superando di slancio l'obiettivo annuale che ci eravamo prefissati di 50 Paesi e continueremo ancora per costruire una Expo scintillante, intelligente e capace di attrarre attenzione e interesse di milioni di persone di tutto il mondo", ha aggiunto.

Soddisfatto anche il sindaco di Milano e Commissario straordinario per l’Esposizione Universale Giuliano Pisapia: “Dopo le giornate di Cernobbio, che hanno visto una larga partecipazione di delegazioni estere al primo International Participants Meeting, si conferma una volta di più l’interesse  per un’Esposizione universale  che fa del tema strategico dell’alimentazione il suo punto di forza e di attrazione. La macchina di Expo 2015 si è messa in marcia: a Milano, in Italia e nel mondo lavoreremo tutti affinché sia un grande successo e un volano di sviluppo”.

Proprio sul tema “Nutrire il Pianeta, Energia per la Vita” si è concentrato il primo ministro moldavo, Vladimir Filat, nella lettera con cui conferma la partecipazione del Paese: “È un’opportunità per valorizzare l’immagine della Repubblica di Moldova, promuovere i valori culturali, scientifici, tecnologici moldavi, essendo un canale di comunicazione per promuovere lo sviluppo economico e il commercio internazionale, facilitando anche l’interazione e la cooperazione tra i nostri Paesi”.

Nuove adesioni per Expo Milano 2015. A pochi giorni dal primo International Participants Meeting, continua a crescere il numero dei Paesi che parteciperanno all’Esposizione Universale di Milano. Dopo il Bangladesh, anche la Repubblica Dominicana e la Moldavia hanno comunicato ufficialmente la propria presenza. Salgono così a 60 i Partecipanti Internazionali all’Expo milanese.

Il segretario di stato e direttore esecutivo del Centro di Esportazione e Investimento della Repubblica Dominicana, Eddy Martinez Manzueta, ha confermato l’adesione con una lettera indirizzata all’ambasciatore italiano a Santo Domingo. Nella missiva, si legge l’impegno del Paese a coinvolgere tutti i settori produttivi, enti pubblici e privati, per prendere parte al progetto Expo.

Il tema, “Nutrire il Pianeta, Energia per la Vita”, è al centro della riflessione che accompagna la conferma di partecipazione della Moldavia. “È un’opportunità per valorizzare l’immagine della Repubblica di Moldova, promuovere i valori culturali, scientifici, tecnologici moldavi, essendo un canale di comunicazione per promuovere lo sviluppo economico e il commercio internazionale, facilitando anche l’interazione e la cooperazione tra i nostri Paesi”, scrive il primo ministro moldavo Vladimir Filat, rendendo noto il nome del Commissario generale, Valeriu Lazǎr, attuale vice primo ministro e ministro dell’Economia.

Il Consiglio di Amministrazione di Expo 2015 S.p.A. ha approvato oggi il progetto di revisione del Piano Investimenti, che prevede una riduzione complessiva dell’impegno finanziario per 300 milioni di euro.

Tale misura va ora all'esame dell’Assemblea dei Soci per la delibera.

La razionalizzazione, che giunge al termine del processo di progettazione delle infrastrutture necessarie per realizzare l’evento, è stato condivisa con i vertici del Bie (Bureau International des Expositions) e non pregiudica in alcuno modo gli aspetti significativi del sito espositivo e più in generale della qualità della manifestazione.

Nel frattempo, con la conferma del Bangladesh, sono salite a 58 le adesioni ad Expo Milano 2015.

"I'm satisfied to have found that the official participants that have joined Milan's Expo are already 57, including governments and international organizations, plus a big number of private entities. This universal exhibition will be the most relevant event hosted in Italy in the last decades. I fervently hope that the active collaboration of the national and international parties involved can fully realize the significant potential of Expo 2015, catalyzing the best skills and resources available on a global scale around a strategic theme as 'Feeding the Planet, energy for life'". With those words, the President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, expressed his welcoming message to the General Commissioner of Expo 2015, Roberto Formigoni, and the Special Commissioner of Expo 2015, Giuliano Pisapia, on the occasion of the 'International Participants Meeting' which kicked-off today with the Participant's Flags Display ceremony in Via Mercanti.

L’aggiudicazione è avvenuta al termine delle procedure di verifica della congruità delle offerte pervenute in seguito al bando pubblicato il 3 agosto 2011, procedura che ha riguardato le prime cinque offerte sul totale delle 25 pervenute.

La gara (aggiudicata secondo il criterio del massimo ribasso) aveva un valore di 90 milioni di euro più 6,8 milioni per gli oneri di sicurezza, questi ultimi non soggetti a ribasso. 

La CMC si è aggiudicata l’appalto con un’offerta di 58.536.915,7 euro, oltre ai 6,8 milioni per gli oneri di sicurezza. Il ribasso proposto dalla società è stato pari al 42,83 per cento. 

I lavori di rimozione delle interferenze sono il primo passo per l’avvio della realizzazione del sito che ospiterà l’Esposizione Universale del 2015 a Milano.

Meetings with people, institutions and the business community of Sicily will be held tomorrow, Friday, October 7, 2011 with three appointments in Palermo.

The first meeting will be held at 12.30 in the Hall of Mirrors at Palazzo d'Orleans, the seat of the Presidency of the Region, where a press conference will take place with the President of the Region, Raffaele Lombardo, the Economic Councillor of the region with a proxy for Expo 2015, Gaetano Armao and the managing director of Expo 2015 Giuseppe Sala.

In the afternoon, at 16:00, at Loggiato San Bartolomeo, the exhibition “Towards Expo Milan 2015”, edited by Aldo Cibic and Maria Antonietta Crippa, will be inaugurated in the presence of the President of the Province of Palermo, Giovanni Avanti.

At 17:30 there will be a congress on “Expo meets Palermo” at Sala Gialla dell’Ars (Sicily’s Regional Assembly) in the presence of the President of Ars, Francesco Cascio, the Regional Councillor Gaetano Armao, the President of the Province, Giovanni Avanti, the Chancellor of the University of Palermo, Roberto Lagalla, the president of Confindustria Sicilia,  Ivan Lo Bello, the regional coordinator of Confcommercio Julo Cosentino, the Manager of Territorio Sicilia of  Unicredit Bank,  Roberto Bertola, the President of the Vite e Vino Regional Institute, Dario Cartabellotta, the President of Gemeaz Cusin,  Fabio Cusin and the CEO of Expo2015,  Giuseppe Sala.

“Palermo meets Expo 2015” has been realized in collaboration with UniCredit, Gemeaz Cusin Group e Istituto Regionale Vite e Vino.

The Meeting, whose 2011 edition will be held in Milan and Como (Villa Erba) from October 25 to 27, is a crucial stage for the early engagement of the Participants, who will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the Exposition’s concept.

Furthermore, the International Participants Guide will be presented at the Meeting, offering essential support to Participants who, in addition to being updated on the advancement of the project, will be provided with the necessary information on the participation procedures.

In view of the 2011 edition of the Meeting, Countries have been encouraged to respond formally to the Official Letter of Invitation signed by the Italian Prime Minister and to date over 50 Countries have confirmed their participation to Expo Milano 2015.

In addition to Official Participants (Countries and International Organisations), Expo Milano 2015 has also extended the invitation to the Meeting to various categories of  Non-Official Participants, whose presence at the recent Universal Expositions has gradually increased: hence, representatives of companies, Civil Society Associations, International Regions and Italian Institutions have also been involved.

The Meeting is organised around a series of plenary sessions explaining the general contents of the Event and technical workshops that will focus on the participation procedures and on the organisation of the Exposition.

The First Meeting, which will be widely followed by the press and media, will be an exceptional opportunity to boost marketing and to stimulate the public's enthusiasm and expectations towards the Universal Exposition.

Telecom Italia is Expo 2015’s key technology partner. Under the terms of the partnership agreement, which is worth €43 million in funding, goods and services, Telecom Italia will support the development of a sustainable and intelligent city – the first Smart City of the future – of which the site will serve as an example. Telecom Italia is to supply Expo 2015 with fixed-line, mobile and IT network infrastructure, supply the latest generation of technology solutions, manage operations and maintenance, and supply telephony and data connectivity and traffic services. 

As part of its plan to build the Expo 2015 Digital Smart City as a template for the city of the future, Expo 2015 adjudged Telecom Italia’s technical bid to fully meet its innovation and environmental sustainability requirements and comply with international technology standards. The Expo 2015 Digital Smart City’s infrastructure will also be deployed with NFC technology-equipped technologies (such as totems, turnstiles or POS) for interacting with visitors’ and exhibitors’ mobile terminals and delivering advanced mobile payment and mobile ticketing services. Telecom Italia will enable the activation of different types of services by installing specific applications onto SMART NFC SIMs in real time as and when they are used. 

Planned public services in which Telecom Italia will be involved include building a web portal accessible from fixed phones, mobile phones and multimedia totems to allow the purchase of electronic entrance tickets online, virtual tour access, visit planning, participation in social initiatives, and purchasing event-related products online. 

To ensure the widest possible access to the event, Telecom Italia will deploy telemedicine services for monitoring specific physiological parameters on the move, inclusive of data transmission to relevant healthcare professionals. Telecom Italia will also make tele-learning and entertainment platforms available in order to allow people to participate in Expo 2015 from hospitals, schools and old people’s homes via interactive whiteboards, bedside terminals and multimedia totems.

During the assembly, Steen Christensen, president of the BIE Executive Committee, (in the photo below with Vicente Loscertales) focused on possible delays. “It’s necessary for us – he explained – to launch public tenders within the end of the month and to start working at the latest in October or we won’t arrive on time” for the opening of 1 May 2005 and “we will make consequent decisions”.

The mayor of Milan, Giuliano Pisapia, assured that we will go ahead on the way showed by Giuseppe Sala and he interpreted Christensen’s words as an encouragement: “Expo will go on without hesitation – he explained – There’s absolutely no doubt. We have to respect exactly the dates that BIE has given us. Concerning delays there’s Milan’s commitment and, above all, everybody’s commitment because, without a community of interests, we run the risk of failure of a great opportunity for Milan, and not only for Milan”.

The president of the Lombardy Region, Roberto Formigoni, assured that the Arexpo society, created by the Region in order to buy grounds, received go-ahead from owners. Formigoni declared that Italy has until now “met all deadlines”. And the CEO of Expo 2015 S.p.A., Giuseppe Sala, added that “we can’t have any hesitation”.

After having put the controversy on planetary gardens in perspective and saying that “it’s a concept of the masterplan of two years ago, not the exposition theme”, the BIE Secretary General Vicente Loscertales declared: “I’m optimistic. We have to work for Milan: if we respect dates, i. e. we launch public tenders in July and we start working at the latest in October, we are on time”. Since “everyone has talked on all occasions and there is too much confusion”, Loscertales will be in Milan at the end of the month for some meetings with, among others, the mayor Pisapia and the president Formigoni.

At the end of the assembly, the CEO of Expo 2015 Spa, Giuseppe Sala, stated: “The BIE is satisfied about the solution found for grounds and it has given a warning about works deadlines. I’m not surprised because I’m aware of the problem. That’s why I have recently tried to explain that we can’t wait anymore. The BIE has appreciated the progress status report and our commitment to start working on the site within October.

I’d like to thank Letizia Moratti for her work and Giuliano Pisapia for the commitment that he has already showed coming here to the BIE General Assembly in Paris. I’d like to thank also the president Formigoni for his decisive contribution to the solution of the areas problem. This collaboration among institutions allows us to come to Paris with renewed cohesion”.

Letizia Moratti has chosen the BIE General Assembly’s audience to announce that she won’t be any more the extraordinary commissioner for Expo 2015. In front of the new Mayor of Milan, Giuliano Pisapia, she stated: “I have informed the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi about my decision to resign. I renounce my role of extraordinary commissioner for Expo 2015 because of my respect for both the new mayor Giuliano Pisapia and the coalition that is supporting him”.

The mayor Pisapia, who started out in front of the BIE, expressed his gratitude to Letizia Moratti: “I would like to thank you on behalf of me and Milan for your commitment and for Expo 2015 success”.

The winning project is Andrea Puppa’s multi-coloured writing, which has obtained 4747 votes, while Alice Ferrari’s egg has received 2622 votes.

The two finalists’ logos have been chosen among more than 700 projects, thanks to the prestigious and qualified jury’s job. The jury’s president, Giorgio Armani, has stated: “I’m very satisfied because the competition for the Expo 2015 new logo has aroused great interest. The large number of votes represents a real and sincere participation in a very important project related to our city’s future”.

Satisfaction has been expressed also by Giuseppe Sala, the CEO of Expo 2015 S.p.A. : “We have realized in the individuation process of the new logo exactly what we wanted and what people asked us. We have demonstrated that the Universal Exposition’s adventure is collective and it belongs to people. The enthusiasm for the projects presentation has been extraordinary. Now we start working together with the author of the project chosen by web people. This job will serve the purpose of making the logo suitable for useful declinations, including those for Expo 2015 merchandising. The society will organize as soon as possible a real online exhibition of all the logos received during the competition.

Besides the President Giorgio Armani, the jury is composed of Luisa Bocchietto, Pierluigi Cerri, Gillo Dorfles, Italo Lupi, Marco Piazza, Daniela Piscitelli, Marco Pogliani, Giuseppe Sala, Andrée Ruth Shammah e Ugo Volli. A sincere thanks goes to all the jury’s members for their work.

The winner will be awarded a prize of 15 thousand Euros, while second place entry will receive 4 thousand Euros.

Il tema della Esposizione Universale di Milano 2015 è Nutrire il Pianeta. Energia per la vita, argomento di profonda attualità per il futuro delle prossime generazioni. In vista dell’importante avvenimento è stata promossa da Expo Milano 2015 una serie di quattro incontri dedicati nel loro complesso a “Expo e Chiesa: un dialogo aperto verso il 2015”.

Il primo si è tenuto all’Ambasciata d’Italia presso la Santa Sede di Roma sul tema Alimentare la pace; il secondo si è svolto presso la Pontifi cia Accademia delle Scienze in Vaticano sul tema Biodiversità e Cambiamenti Climatici, mentre il terzo, svoltosi presso la Fondazione Memmo, ha riguardato Il simbolismo del cibo nella Bibbia.

Il quarto e conclusivo incontro, che si terrà alla Fondazione Giorgio Cini il prossimo 18 maggio e a cui parteciperanno, tra gli altri, il Cardinale Angelo Scola, Patriarca di Venezia, e la professoressa Janne Halland Matlary, tratterà invece il tema Abitare il mondo domani. Quale identità sociale?

Il termine “identità sociale” è stato pensato per discutere in maniera generale le relazioni politiche e le interazioni sociali, religiose ed economiche tra le persone. In altre parole: come si svilupperà la società nel futuro? Come dovrebbe essere questa società? Esiste una società ideale, in grado di favorire l’osmosi di culture e modi di vita? Quali credenze, fedi, stili di vita e abitudini l’Europa seguirà come conseguenza dell’immigrazione, della globalizzazione e delle nuove conoscenze?
