“Cameroon has already communicated its participation to Expo Milano 2015. It’s wonderful learning it at the worldwide symposium on food safety and agriculture” announced Mr Roberto Formigoni, the General Commissioner of Expo Milano 2015 attending the meeting promoted by the American Government, some days before the G8 summit. “The symposium is an important occasion to introduce the issues of Expo Milano 2015” stated Mr Formigoni after having met the USA General Secretary, Mrs. Hillary Clinton. She ensured: “USA cannot miss this opportunity. We intend to participate to the event”. “We want – underlined Formigoni – to promote a common conceptual platform. To this aim, we have defined a strategic document about the approach of Italy to the theme of the Universal Exposition with the support of scientists and experts. It will be shared with the participants and the international organizations”.
The humanitarian and environmental challenges (e.g. the world starvation, the economic equity) will be the issues of the debate promoted by the Universal Exposition: “Expo Milano 2015 will leave a big political and cultural inheritance. We aim to define a shared etic code against the wastes of food and the speculation in the food industry and to promote food education because in the world there are not only a billion of starving people but also a million of overweight people”. Mr. Formigoni underlined also the economic opportunities offered by the 2015 event starting from its positive effects on the tourism in Italy. “Expo Milano 2015 will revitalize the Italian economy after the worldwide crisis. The Italian Government has reconfirmed the forecast investments. We expect 20 million of visitors in 6 months, 140,000 pro days”.
