Expo Milano 2015 Exhibition - update on the construction site, schedule of building work and thematic areas

Convincing and well-calibrated.  The General Assembly of the BIE, which was held in Paris on 12 June 2012, confirmed its positive evaluation of the Expo Milano 2015 project. The meeting was an opportunity to review the progress of work. “We are satisfied with how things are progressing”, declared Roberto Formigoni Commissioner General of Expo Milano 2015, underlining the high number of confirmed participants: “There are already 87 Official Participants, a very significant number three years before the event, demonstrating the value and international interest in the project”. According to Giuliano Pisapia, Special Commissioner, one of the main reasons for this positive evaluation is the ability of the city of Milan to welcome and play host to thousands of visitors without difficulty: “The World meeting of Families in Milan and the Pope’s visit are proof of this”.

During the press conference after returning from Paris, Giuseppe Sala CEO of Expo 2015 SpA confirmed the positive opinion expressed by the BIE: “We are completely on schedule. The planning stage is finished.  And the countries like it”.

After Sala reported on the appreciation shown by the BIE together with commissioners Formigoni and Pisapia, he presented to the press the work schedule for the exhibition site.

At the end of the meeting the journalists visited the construction site located in the Rho-Pero area.  Sala and Angelo Paris, Director of Construction at Expo 2015 SpA, described the progress of work. Currently work to remove interferences at the site is being carried out by Cmc of Ravenna, the company awarded the tender in the autumn of last year.

The tender for the next stage, construction of the so-called “plate”, will be awarded mid July: “Nine offers have been received”, announced Giuseppe Sala. The pavilions and thematic areas will be built on the plate, including the Zero Pavilion, the nine clusters, Palazzo Italia, the Children Park and the Lake Arena.
