Planning Office

Milan

On 26 October 2009, Expo 2015 S.p.A. presented its Planning Office to the press. The goal of the Office was to complete the definitive Master Plan for submission on 1 May 2010 to the BIE for registration of the event. The Master Plan is still being developed to while ensuring adherence to the Expo concept. The aim is to make it compatible with all Expo functional requirements without sacrificing any of the original ideals.

The Planning Office is to be located in Bovisa, just a few minutes from the Exposition site, in an area that sums up Milan in this phase of its development. It’s an innovative and dynamic place, an example of the transformation of former industrial areas and the urban and architectural renewal that is going on all over Milan.

This is an area seeking to build its own future through collaboration between public and private concerns, between businesses and institutions (the city council, the Milan Polytechnic, the Triennale, TeleLombardia, the Istituto Mario Negri ...). It’s a place undergoing transformation to become a new centre of creativity, experimentation, youth culture (Milan Polytechnic, Triennale, Salone del Mobile, Milano Film Festival) where big projects by big architects (Grande Bovisa by Rem Koolhaas) are being developed.

There will be space aplenty in the Planning Office for new ideas, fresh approaches, creative input but also expertise: candidates were chosen based upon their backgrounds, their motivations and their competence, with the aim of creating a diverse group of people under 30 years of age, guided by a team of senior professionals.

Following the registration of Expo 2015 at the BIE, the Planning Office has increased its staff, thus acquiring a broad range of new skills. This has been essential in determining the technical requisites and the preliminary designs of all Masterplan elements, and for proceeding on to the construction phase.
