Expo Milano 2015 at Expo Shanghai 2010

More than 2000 people, including 40 Heads of State and Government, attended the Closing Ceremony of the greatest Universal Exhibition of all times, Expo Shanghai 2010. During the Ceremony, held on October 30th at the Cultural Center of Expo Shanghai, the Expo Milano 2015 delegation, led by the Special Commissioner Letizia Moratti and the CEO Giuseppe Sala, received the BIE flag symbolizing the handover between the two World Expositions.

Expo Milano 2015 participated in Expo Shanghai 2010 with a permanent exhibition space, located inside the Italy Pavilion, that was visited by more than 5,000 delegations and 7 million visitors. Among them it is worth mentioning the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano, who wished Milan good luck on the occasion of his visit to Expo Shanghai 2010: “We strongly rely on what you are preparing for the Milan Expo” remarked President Napolitano  “You have to be ready to take this baton and start running… to organize an Expo that matches our reputation and capabilities and keeps up with the expectations of the whole world”.

A program of cultural events aimed at promoting the Milan Expo, such as the Concert of the Filarmonica della Scala and the Show of the BIE Day, was presented at Expo Shanghai 2010 by Expo Milano 2015. The participation in Expo Shanghai was also an opportunity to implement an observer program and to start the dialogue with Countries, International Organizations and Companies in consideration of their participation in Expo Milano 2015.
